Project Result 1

The Be Active, be a Citizen workshop programme based on the philosophy for community (P4C)

Project Result 1

The Be Active, be a Citizen workshop programme based on the philosophy for community (P4C) methodologies, which aims to support young persons to develop / strengthen their critical thinking skills in relation to environmental citizenship, democratic citizenship at the EU level and social citizenship.

According to the method, which is based on reading – questioning – discussing, for each of these topics partners will develop materials to facilitate and guide the sessions, according to a scaffolding principle. First of all, an introduction will be developed with theoretical and background information in relation to the topic of the session, tocontextualise it in the framework of the goal of the BeAC project. Then stimuli will be developed to initiate the discussion: we expect them to be ad-hoc written stories, but they might also take the shape of videos if deemed more useful for the final goal. Secondly, for each topic exercises and discussion plans which correspond on a 1 to 1 basis with the concepts hinted about in the stimulus will be developed. Finally, suggestions will be included on how to deal with the discussion part. The final result will be a manual on how to implement Philosophy for Community sessions with teenagers and young adults around these three topics in non formal educational contexts. The aim of this tool is to provide youth workers and other professionals working with young persons with practical instruments that can guide them in the implementation of P4C based programmes to develop critical thinking skills. While being a stand alone tool, the report also complements Project Results 2 and 3 as it can be used as a part of a wider educational programme.
